Rice Yield (%) = (Weight of Milled Rice / Weight of Paddy Rice) x 100 :

  • Weight of Paddy Rice : This is the total weight of the unhusked or unprocessed rice, also known as paddy rice. (Weight of Paddy Rice = 100kg included 20% moisture, 20% husk and 8% brown Layer)

  • Weight of Milled Rice : This is the total weight of the processed rice obtained after milling. It includes the cleaned and polished rice grains. (Weight of Milled Rice = 68kg included 12.5% moisture)

  • The result of the calculation is then multiplied by 100 to express the yield as a percentage. We get 68% Milled Rice including head rice/wand, II wand, tibar, dubar, mogra, mini mogra and broken rice.

  • For example, if you have 100 kilograms of paddy rice, and after milling, you obtain 68 kilograms of milled rice, the calculation would be : Rice Yield (%)=(68 kg/100 kg)×100=68%

  • This means that the rice yield, or the percentage of milled rice obtained from the original paddy rice, is 68%. Next we separate the rice thoroughly with Quality Control Processing.

Quality Control Processing : Quality control in rice production is a crucial aspect to ensure that the rice meets the desired standards in terms of safety, nutritional content, and overall quality. Several factors are considered in the quality control process for rice.

  • Grain Size and Appearance : Rice grains are categorized based on size, length, and shape. Different varieties have distinct characteristics. The appearance of the grains is an essential factor in determining quality.

  • Moisture Content : Proper moisture content is critical for preventing mold growth and maintaining the rice's shelf life. Excess moisture can lead to spoilage, while too little moisture can result in brittle rice.

  • Milling Quality : The milling process is crucial in determining the quality of rice. It involves removing the husk, bran, and germ layers to obtain polished rice. The degree of milling affects the texture, appearance, and cooking properties of the rice.

  • Purity and Foreign Matter : Quality control checks for the presence of impurities, such as stones, dust, or other foreign matter. Pure rice should be free from contaminants that can affect its safety and taste.

  • Aroma and Flavor : The aroma and flavor of rice play a significant role in its overall quality. Certain varieties are known for their distinctive scents and tastes, and maintaining these characteristics is crucial for consumer satisfaction.

  • Nutritional Content : Quality control measures may include checking the nutritional content of rice, including levels of vitamins, minerals, and other nutrients. This is particularly important for consumers seeking specific nutritional benefits.

  • Pesticide Residue and Contaminants : To ensure food safety, quality control involves testing for pesticide residues and contaminants. Adhering to regulatory limits is essential to meet health standards.

  • Packaging and Storage : Proper packaging is necessary to protect rice from external factors such as moisture and pests. Quality control extends to checking the integrity of packaging materials and ensuring that storage conditions are suitable to maintain the rice's quality.

  • Labeling and Compliance : Quality control also involves verifying that the rice packaging complies with labeling regulations. This includes providing accurate information about the rice's origin, nutritional content, and any certifications it may have.

  • Regulatory Compliance : Following local and international standards and regulations is crucial. Regulatory bodies often set standards for various aspects of rice production to ensure safety and quality. Implementing stringent quality control measures throughout the rice production process helps maintain the reputation of rice producers and ensures consumer satisfaction by delivering a consistent and high-quality product.

Container Booking Process to Export Rice :

  • Booking a container for exporting goods involves two main methods : You can either book through a Custom House Agent (CHA), who will handle the booking and coordinate with the shipping line on your behalf, simplifying the process. Alternatively, you can book the container yourself directly with the shipping line, giving you more control over the details.

  • Once the container is booked, a logistics agent steps in to manage the remaining steps. They will collect the empty container from the yard, transport it to your factory for loading, and then take the loaded container to the port for customs clearance. Finally, once the container is cleared, it is ready to be shipped to its destination.

Shipping Bill Filling Process at Indian Port to Export Rice :

  • Assessment of Shipping Bill: File the shipping bill for assessment when the container and cargo arrive at the Indian port. This step ensures that all necessary customs duties and documentation are in order.

  • Certifications (Fumigation, COO, Phyto, etc.): Obtain fumigation, Certificate of Origin (COO), Phytosanitary Certificate, and any other required certifications during the stuffing of the container or cargo at the Indian port. These certifications are crucial for meeting international shipping standards and regulations.

  • Shipping Bill LEO (Let Export Order) Filing: File the Shipping Bill LEO when the container and cargo reach the terminal at the Indian port. This step marks the final approval for the export, allowing the goods to be loaded onto the vessel for shipment. These steps in sequence, you ensure compliance with Indian port regulations and streamline the export process.
